Description
A crispy, flavorful blooming onion made in the air fryer for a healthier twist on the classic appetizer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- Non-stick cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Cut off the top of the onion and peel the outer layers. Cut the onion into petals by making 12-16 vertical cuts down to the base, being careful not to cut all the way through.
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
- Dredge the onion in the flour mixture, ensuring each petal is coated. Shake off the excess flour.
- Dip the onion in the egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off.
- Finally, coat the onion in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they stick.
- Spray the onion generously with non-stick cooking spray.
- Place the onion in the air fryer basket and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add spices like cayenne pepper or Italian seasoning to the breadcrumb mixture.
- Make sure to separate the petals of the onion gently to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
