Description
A sweet and savory dish made with tender chicken cooked in a bourbon sauce, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup bourbon
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the bourbon, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Remove the chicken from the marinade and add it to the skillet. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Pour the marinade into the skillet and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Add this to the skillet and stir until the sauce thickens.
- Serve the bourbon chicken over rice or noodles, garnished with chopped green onions.
Notes
- For a thicker sauce, let it simmer longer to reduce further.
- Feel free to substitute chicken breasts for thighs if preferred.
- This dish pairs well with steamed vegetables.
