  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the bourbon, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and let it sit for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade and add it to the skillet. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Pour the marinade into the skillet and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Add this to the skillet and stir until the sauce thickens.
  7. Serve the bourbon chicken over rice or noodles, garnished with chopped green onions.

Notes

  • For a thicker sauce, let it simmer longer to reduce further.
  • Feel free to substitute chicken breasts for thighs if preferred.
