Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, and cocoa powder over medium heat until the mixture is smooth and the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until thoroughly chilled.
  4. Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  5. If desired, mix in chocolate chips during the last few minutes of churning.
  6. Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
