Indulge in the rich, gooey goodness of Chocolate Lava Cake, where a molten chocolate center flows out with every bite. Perfect for special occasions or a sweet treat at home, this recipe is sure to impress!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 large eggs
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and chocolate chips. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, egg yolks, and granulated sugar until pale and slightly thickened.
- Stir in the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, followed by the flour and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins. Place them on a baking sheet for easy handling.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges look firm but the center is still soft.
- Remove from the oven and let sit for 1 minute. Carefully run a knife around the edges of each ramekin to loosen the cake.
- Invert each ramekin onto a dessert plate and gently release the cake. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet.
- Make sure not to overbake; the center should remain molten for the signature lava effect.
- You can prepare the batter ahead of time and refrigerate it in the ramekins. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
