Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Pickles
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Onion slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  2. In a bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt and pepper. Do not overwork the meat.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties, slightly larger than the buns as they will shrink while cooking.
  4. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up during cooking.
  5. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side.
  6. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  7. Toast the hamburger buns on the grill for about 1 minute until golden brown.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onions on the bottom bun, followed by the burger patty, and any condiments you like.
  9. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
