Description

This classic smash burger recipe features a perfectly seared beef patty, melty cheese, and fresh toppings all on a toasted bun. It’s the ultimate burger experience!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices of American cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Pickles
  • Ketchup and mustard (optional)
  • Butter for toasting buns

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions, about 4 ounces each. Gently form them into loose balls, do not overwork the meat.
  3. Once the skillet is hot, place the beef balls on the skillet and immediately smash each ball down with a spatula to form a patty. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Cook for about 2-3 minutes without moving them until a crust forms on the bottom. Flip the patties and immediately add a slice of cheese on top.
  5. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  6. While the patties are cooking, butter the burger buns and toast them on a separate skillet until golden brown.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing the patty on the bottom bun, adding lettuce, tomato, pickles, and any other desired toppings.
  8. Spread ketchup and mustard on the top bun, then place it on top of the assembled burger.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy your classic smash burger!
