Description

Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices of American cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lettuce leaves
- Tomato slices
- Pickles
- Ketchup and mustard (optional)
- Butter for toasting buns
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions, about 4 ounces each. Gently form them into loose balls, do not overwork the meat.
- Once the skillet is hot, place the beef balls on the skillet and immediately smash each ball down with a spatula to form a patty. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes without moving them until a crust forms on the bottom. Flip the patties and immediately add a slice of cheese on top.
- Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
- While the patties are cooking, butter the burger buns and toast them on a separate skillet until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers by placing the patty on the bottom bun, adding lettuce, tomato, pickles, and any other desired toppings.
- Spread ketchup and mustard on the top bun, then place it on top of the assembled burger.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your classic smash burger!
