Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 8 hot dogs
  • Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine milk and egg. Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.
  3. Insert wooden skewers into hot dogs, leaving enough stick for handling.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dip each hot dog into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.
  6. Carefully place the battered hot dog into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
