- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 8 hot dogs
- Wooden skewers or popsicle sticks
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine milk and egg. Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.
- Insert wooden skewers into hot dogs, leaving enough stick for handling.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip each hot dog into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.
- Carefully place the battered hot dog into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add spices to the batter, such as paprika or cayenne pepper.
- Ensure the oil is at the right temperature for even cooking.
- You can use mini hot dogs for bite-sized corn dogs.
