Description
These crispy chicken tacos are packed with flavor and perfect for a quick weeknight dinner. The chicken is seasoned and fried to golden perfection, then served in warm tortillas with fresh toppings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 8 small corn or flour tortillas
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or Mexican blend)
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Dip chicken pieces into buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then coat in the seasoned flour mixture.
- In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (around 350°F).
- Fry the chicken in batches, avoiding overcrowding the pan, until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Warm tortillas in a skillet or microwave until soft.
- Assemble tacos by placing fried chicken in tortillas, then top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and cilantro if desired.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your crispy chicken tacos!
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the chicken in buttermilk for a few hours before coating.
- You can customize toppings based on your preference. Try adding avocado, jalapeños, or salsa for an extra kick.
- If you prefer baked tacos, you can bake the chicken instead of frying at 400°F for about 20-25 minutes.
