- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a shallow bowl, combine the whole wheat breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, beat the egg.
- Dip each chicken breast into the egg, then coat with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Place the coated chicken breasts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the coating is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and spoon marinara sauce over each chicken breast.
- Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top and return to the oven for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil if desired, and serve immediately.
