- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup hot honey (for drizzling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9-inch square baking pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, honey, and cayenne pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and drizzle with hot honey while still warm.
- Let cool slightly before cutting into squares and serving.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to suit your spice preference.
- Serve warm with additional hot honey on the side.
