- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to stir until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble.
- Reduce the heat and add the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses, stirring until melted and smooth.
- Add salt, pepper, and paprika to taste.
- Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni, stirring until well coated.
- If desired, transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Serve warm and enjoy!

- For extra flavor, add cooked bacon, ham, or vegetables such as broccoli or peas.
