- 2 Large onions (Vidalia or sweet onions work best.)
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup Cornstarch (For extra crispiness.)
- 1 teaspoon Baking powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
- 1 Egg (Beaten.)
- 1 cup Milk
- 2 cups Breadcrumbs (Panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.)
- for frying Vegetable oil
Instructions
- Peel and slice the onions into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk.
- Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat.
- Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the onion rings and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add garlic powder or paprika to the breadcrumb mixture.
- Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to ensure crispy onion rings.
