Philly Cheesesteak: 5 Steps to Cheesy Perfection

  • Author: ushinzomr
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A classic Philly Cheesesteak recipe featuring thinly sliced beef, sautéed onions, and melted cheese served in a hoagie roll.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (or Cheez Whiz)
  • Optional toppings: mushrooms, jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers (if using) and sauté until softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Push the vegetables to one side of the skillet, then add the thinly sliced steak. Season the beef with salt and pepper, and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Mix the beef with the vegetables and stir to combine.
  5. Lay the slices of provolone cheese over the beef mixture, allowing it to melt. Alternatively, you can use Cheez Whiz.
  6. While the cheese is melting, slice the hoagie rolls open and lightly toast them if desired.
  7. Once the cheese is melted, scoop the cheesesteak mixture into the hoagie rolls.
  8. Add any additional toppings you desire and serve immediately.
