Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend is recommended)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices of American cheese
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon dill pickle relish
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Lettuce, tomato, and onion for toppings
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, garlic powder, and onion powder. Set aside.
- Preheat a griddle or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and form loose balls. Do not compact them.
- Once the skillet is hot, place the beef balls on the skillet and immediately smash them down with a spatula until they are about 1/2 inch thick. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the edges are crispy and the juices start to bubble on top.
- Flip the patties, place a slice of cheese on each one, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
- While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns on the griddle until golden brown.
- Assemble the burgers: spread special sauce on the bottom bun, add lettuce, the cheesy patty, tomato, onion, and top with the bun.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your smash burger!
